After a storm devastated his home, a Kansas man discovered the extraordinary kindness of strangers.
When a tree crashed through 71-year-old Gilbert Kirk's home in Kansas, he and his dog were trapped beneath the wreckage for hours.
Weeks later, with his roof still exposed, Kirk made a modest appeal on local television.
He simply needed a tarp.
Two days later, a stranger arrived, promising to return with supplies.
He kept his word.
Steven Vega and other volunteers brought lumber, covered the damaged roof, and helped Kirk begin recovering from the storm.
The house still needed repairs, but the immediate danger of further rain damage had been reduced. More neighbors offered assistance, and Kirk received temporary accommodation.
What began with one stranger's promise became a community's determination to help a man rebuild his life.
