What began as a quiet fishing trip in Indiana became a remarkable act of courage when two teenage brothers saw a family in danger.

Brothers Maddox and Grant Larger were fishing near a pond in Carmel, Indiana, when they noticed a grandmother and her two young grandchildren struggling in the water.

It was October 12, and the boys, ages 15 and 14, were enjoying their school break.

A stroller carrying a 2-year-old had entered the pond, while the grandmother struggled with a 4-year-old clinging to her back.

Maddox jumped into the water, helping the grandmother and older child reach safety.

When he learned the toddler was still trapped in the partially submerged stroller, he returned and pulled the child out.

The toddler was not breathing. Drawing on emergency training he had learned at school, Maddox administered back blows until the child began breathing again.

Grant helped during the rescue and contacted emergency services.

By the time responders arrived, all three family members were safely out of the water.
